Bramajahn Chinawut Sirisompan (ปรมาจารย์ ซินวุธ ศิริสัมพันธ์), better known as Grandmaster Woody, was born on June 13th, 1954 in Bangkok Thailand.
He began learning Muay Thai Boran around the age of seven under the tutelage of his uncle, the former Deputy Prime Minister, Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Army, Minister of Education, President of Thai Board of Sports and Vice President of the Thai Olympic Committee, The Father of Amateur Muay Thai, General Tienchai Sirisumpan.
In 1974 Grandmster Woody worked as the fight choreographer for the James Bond Motion Picture "The Man with the Golden Gun".
After participating in peaceful protests led by college students with Woody being one of the organizers and leaders, Grandmaster Woody was compelled to leave the country after the government began witchhunts for the leaders of the protests. On April 5th, 1975 at the age of 20 , GM Woody moved to England and was instramental in introducing Muay Thai to Europe and later to the Arab Nations.
In 1978 he co-founded the first Muay Thai Associations in the United Kingdom , the British Association of Thai Martial Arts ( B.A.T.M.F. ) and the British Thai Boxing Council ( B.T.B.C.).
Grandmaster Woody's first and most loyal student Kevin Lloyd, now a Grandmaster in his own right, was instrumental in the development and the supporting of Grandmaster Woody's proliferation of Muay Thai in England.
It was during this time in Grandmaster Woody's life when he gained a vast first-hand experience of practical fighting skills while working as a bouncer in Bailey's nightclub in Manchester England
In 1995 Grand Master Woody collaborated with the Senior Grand Masters back in Bangkok in the founding of the International Amateur Muay Thai Federation (I.A.M.T.F.) with the position of International Coordinator. The collective organized the first amateur Muay Thai World Championships the following year along with the annual Wai Kru Ceremony commemorating the great Muay Thai Boran hero Nai Khanom Tom, a national holiday in Thailand.
This same year Grandmaster Woody was awarded a Golden Mongkol and the title of Grandmaster by Thailand's Minister of Education.
It was also in this eventful year that Grandmaster Woody gave a seminar in the Middle East which led to the introduction of Muay Thai to the Arab Nations.
In 2003 Grandmaster Woody partnered in the founding of the Kru Muay Thai Association (สมาคมครูมวยไทย) along with Senior Grandmasters Yodtong Senanan (Sriwaralak), Phosawat Saengsawan , Jarusdej Ulit , Dr. Sompon Saengchai , Pajon Muenson and Nachapon Banlenpadit.
Grandmaster Woody was appointed as the International Coordinator responsible for proliferating the commission's mission statement to develop a standardized curriculum of Muay Thai Boran and register all of the world's legitimate experts under the Seal of K.M.A.
The Kru Muay Thai Association is the only organization that is recognized by the Royal Thai Ministry of Culture and Education and mandated as an official registry for the proliferation of Muay Thai Boran.
Two years following the founding of KMA , Grandmaster Woody was proposed by the generations most important Senior Grandmaster , the aforementioned Yodtong Senanan , to Chair the organization, a high honor and responsibility with Grandmaster Woody being the youngest Grandmaster.
Grandmaster Woody is also the Chief Architect of The Kru MuayThai Assocation's "Khan" (ขั้น) ranking system, a massive step towards codifying a standardized curriculum for the Martial Art of Muay Thai Boran which previously had no such ranking system.
Grandmaster Woody is the author of the highly influential Muay Thai Boran textbook called :
"The Art Of MuayThai Boran"
which he published the first edition of in 2010 and the second edition in 2013.
Kru Nick hopes to contribute to a revision of a third edition of the book soon.
Grandmaster Woody also is the founder and president of several other prestigious organizations including the World Muay Boran Federation (WMBF/สหพันธ์มวยโบราฌโลก) and the World Muay Thai Organization (WMO/องค์การมวยไทยโลก).
In December of 2006 Grand Master Woody returned to his homeland of Bangkok Thailand with his wife Jill , son Arran & daughter Jade Marissa.
In 2012 Grandmaster Woody became Director and Owner of the Luktapfah Muay Thai Boran Academy (ค่ายมวยไทยโบราฌลูกทัพฟ้า) in Bangkok making it the International headquarters for the Kru Muay Thai Association. The Academy is also fully accredited by the Thai Ministry of Education.
Grandmaster Woody is the Chairman of the Kru Muay Thai Association and also holds the rank of Khan 18 with the title of "Associate Senior Grandmaster".
In 2013 Grand Master Woody met Kru Nick and begin teaching and mentoring him. In honor of and to pay homage to Grandmaster Woody, Kru Nick adopted the name of "SitWut" (ศิษย์วุธ), meaning "Disciple of Chinawut/Woody".
Grandmaster Woody holds the position of Honorary President and Supreme Adviser of The Art of Muay Sena.
He plays an active role in informing Kru Nick in all matters regarding Muay Thai Boran as well as mentoring him in all other aspects of his life.
